2026 Election Results: In CA-36, D-Ted Lieu leads in the primary race
Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Torrance, in his quest for a seventh term, continued to maintain a double-digit lead Wednesday afternoon in the seven-person primary race to represent California’s 36th congressional district.
Three Democrats — data engineer Rustin Knudtson, business development manager Frederick Reardon and nursing school student Marianne Shamma — are challenging Lieu.
Other challengers include technology executive Houston Brignano and investigative journalist Melissa Toomim, both Republicans, as well as business owner Claire Anderson, who is registered as no-party preference.
Lieu led with 58.61% followed by Brignano at 17.54% and Toomim at 14.82%, according to partial results from the Los Angeles County registrar’s office shortly after 4 p.m. All the other candidates were under 6%.
