Dem Primaries Set; Congressional, Probate Petitioners Come Up Short
New Haven Democrats won’t get to vote in primary elections for Congress and probate court this summer — after challenger candidates failed to secure enough petition signatures to make it onto the ballot.
The Secretary of the State’s office published a list this week of Democratic and Republican primary candidates from across Connecticut whose names will appear on Aug. 11 ballots.
Andrew Rice and Jerald Barber are not on that list.
Rice, a democratic socialist from Milford, has spent the past six months seeking to challenge 18-term incumbent U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro for the Third Congressional District seat.
DeLauro secured the local Democratic Party endorsement for the role at a May 11 convention, leaving Rice to try to gather petition signatures from 2 percent of registered Democrats in the district — or 3,386 in total — by June 9 in order to make it onto the ballot.
