Shea, of Cheshire, is a North Haven firefighter and retired U.S. Navy SEAL with more than 30 years of service. He gained the most support at the Republican party convention earlier this year.
In the 4th Congressional District primary, Michael Goldstein beat Daniel Miressi for a chance to challenge nine-term incumbent Democrat Jim Himes in November with about 74% of the votes but some still to be counted.
The 4th Congressional District represents 17 municipalities in the southwestern part of the state.
Of the 11 different state legislative races decided in Tuesday’s primary, the Connecticut Working Families Party endorsed five candidates, and all of them won.
State Rep. Maryam Khan of Windsor won Tuesday’s three-way Democratic primary in the 2nd state Senate District, ousting embattled incumbent state Sen. Doug McCrory and outpolling Windsor Board of Education Chair Ayana Taylor.
