USA: Cocoa’s planned Brightline station has secured a $56.48 million federal rail grant, clearing its largest funding hurdle and moving the Space Coast stop closer to construction.
U.S. Rep. Mike Haridopolos announced the award on August 11. The grant represents the largest single funding component identified for the more than $80 million station planned near Clearlake Road and U.S. 1, where Brightline has long owned land at the “Cocoa curve.”
Cocoa and the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization had previously pursued the same federal funding without success. The new award changes the project’s funding position, but it does not mean station construction has started.
The federal award sits alongside $15.5 million from the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization, $5 million from the City of Cocoa and $5 million from the Brevard County Tourism Development Council. A separate $2 millio…
