Kennedy Space Center in need of major infrastructure improvements
BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The Kennedy Space Center is starting to show its age as its decades-old infrastructure needs a massive improvement, according to a government reporter.
NASA needs funding, and private space companies using the facilities and launch pads may help.
Forty-six launches have happened so far in 2026 in Florida’s Space Coast, with 109 last year. Kennedy Space Center and the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station could see between 500 and 1,000 launches a year in the coming decades. But for that to happen, an upgrade is needed.
A recent NASA Inspector General report found infrastructure providing electrical power, gas supply and distribution and transportation to launch pads is in poor condition and doesn’t have the capacity to support current and future needs.
