Meet the two candidates vying to win southwest Broward’s District 26 in November

The votes are in, southwest Broward. Do you know who’s poised to represent you at the Capitol in 2027?

Two U.S. House of Representatives seats overseeing Miramar and Pembroke Pines were up for grabs this primary election, turning out two vastly different races.

The contest for District 24 — which covers portions of the two cities east of State Road 847 — proved a heated one, with seven Democratic candidates vying to appear on November’s general election ballot.

Those included state Sen. Shevrin Jones, attorney Kendrick Meek Jr., and Miami-Dade Commissioner Oliver Gilbert, who secured an endorsement from U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson (D), who is vacating the seat.

In the end, voters chose Jones — who won 38% of votes — as their Democratic pick for District 24.

Republican candidate Te Brown, who ran unopposed, advanced from the primary without appearing on the ballot.
