Republicans Could Lose Florida Seat Trump Won by 25 Points: Poll
The Republican Party is in striking distance of losing a Florida seat that President Donald Trump won by 25 points in the 2024 presidential election, according to a new poll.
The survey, conducted by EDGE Communications and MDW Communications, found that the Republicans hold just a four point lead over the Democrats in the 28th congressional district when the candidates' names are removed, on 45 percent to 41 percent. This is within the poll's margin of error of +/- 4.3 percentage points.
When candidates' names are included, the poll found that incumbent Republican Congressman Carlos Giménez is leading his potential Democratic challenger, Hector Mujica, by just six percentage points - 46 percent to 40 percent. A total of 14 percent of respondents were still undecided, Florida Politics reported.
Meanwhile, Mujicia holds a narrow lead over Giménez among third- and no-party voters on 39 percent to 34 percent, with 27 percent still undecided.
Giménez won re-election in Florida's 28th congressional district in November 2024 with 64.6 percent of the vote, to Democratic candidate Phil Ehr's 35.4 percent.
Trump won Florida in the 2024 presidential election, beating Kamala Harris with 56.1 percent of the vote to 43 percent. He won the 28th congressional district with 62.36 percent of the vote to Harris' 36.96 percent.
The poll was conducted on 514 voters in early March. EDGE Communications is advising Mujica's campaign.
