Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on Wednesday pushed back on U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter’s call to halt House races and redraw congressional maps, saying the state is already well into early voting.

The debate follows a Supreme Court ruling last week that removed race-based requirements for voting districts, prompting some states to move quickly to redraw maps ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Carter, a Republican congressman from Georgia’s 1st District and a candidate for U.S. Senate, said Tuesday that already-cast votes should be discarded so new district lines can be drawn for this cycle.
