Special election to replace late Rep. David Scott in Congress heads to runoff

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The special election to fill out the late Rep. David Scott’s term in Congress is headed to a runoff.

Five candidates were on Tuesday’s ballot, including Caesar Gonzalez, Carlos Moore, Everton Blair II, Fayth Park and Marcye Scott, the late representative’s daughter.

Scott and Blair, both Democrats, got the most votes, with roughly 47% and 37%, respectively.

Because no one got a majority of votes, Scott and Blair will face each other in a runoff election on Aug. 25.

Blair previously served as the chair of the Gwinnett County Board of Education.

“This is an opportunity for us to lead forward, to do better,” Blair told Atlanta News First on Wednesday. “I still have a lot of work to do to earn the support of members of the community and I take that very seriously.”
