Trump endorses Chris McGowan in Iowa's 4th District primary

Des Moines Register · February 5, 2026

Republican President Donald Trump has endorsed Chris McGowan in the Republican primary race for Iowa's 4th congressional district, calling him a "fantastic" candidate.

"A Brave Iowa Air National Guard Veteran, successful Attorney, and now, as President of the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce, Chris has a Proven Record of Success — He is a WINNER!" Trump wrote in a social media post Wednesday, Feb. 4.

McGowan is one of four Republicans currently vying for the nomination after the seat was vacated by Republican U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra, who is running for governor.

Also running are Iowa Tea Party founder Ryan Rhodes, software consultant Christian Schlaefer and former Iowa House Majority Leader Matt Windschitl.

McGowan led the field in fundraising in the most recent quarter. And he's already garnered big endorsements from former Gov. Terry Branstad, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.).

"In Congress, Chris will fight hard to Grow the Economy, Promote our Amazing Farmers and Ranchers, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Advocate for MADE IN THE U.S.A., Champion American Energy DOMINANCE, Keep our Border SECURE, Strengthen our Military/Veterans, Ensure LAW AND ORDER, Safeguard our Elections, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment," Trump posted. "Chris McGowan has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next Representative from Iowa’s 4th Congressional District, HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!"

Trump also recently endorsed former state Rep. Joe Mitchell in Iowa's 2nd District GOP primary.

The president previously endorsed incumbent U.S. Reps. Zach Nunn and Mariannette Miller-Meeks in their reelection bids, and he's also thrown his support behind U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson as she runs for U.S. Senate.
