Two independents stricken from 4th District election ballot

Lyons Village President Chris Getty will be the only independent candidate in the 4th Congressional District who will be on the November ballot. The Illinois State Board of Elections vote 8-0 on July 21 to remove Chicago Alderman Byron Sigcho-Lopez and Mayra Macias from the ballot because they did not submit enough valid signatures to get on the November ballot.
Many signatures on Sigcho-Lopez and Macias’s petitions were challenged by supporters of Democratic nominee Patty Garcia and enough signatures were disqualified to leave Macias and Sigcho-Lopez short of the required 10,816 valid signatures to get on the November ballot as independents.
