Congresswoman Underwood makes two stops in area Friday
Fourteenth District Congresswoman Lauren Underwood visited Starved Rock Local Friday, making stops in Oglesby and Peru to highlight federal grants she helped bring to those communities.
The city of Oglesby recently received more than one million in federal dollars to replace more than two thousand feet of lead- and asbestos-coated water pipes that Underwood said posed a significant risk to Oglesby’s drinking water.
Underwood also took a tour of the Illinois Valley Food Pantry in Peru. The Pantry received a $550,000 federal equipment grant to upgrade the services it can provide from the new building it purchased on Progress Boulevard a year ago. The congresswoman was especially impressed with the walk-in freezer and walk-in cooler the grant helped purchase.
Mary Jo Credi, the Pantry’s executive director thanked Underwood for expediting the grant. Credi later told reporters the Pantry still has a fund drive underway to pay for the mortgage on its new building as the federal grant can onl…
