PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria-area Congressman wants to expand funding to get more students into college and beneficial careers.

On Thursday, 16th District Congressman Darin LaHood (R-Dunlap) toured Illinois Central College’s Health Careers Facility.

On the tour, LaHood spoke with teachers and students training in different areas ranging from radiology, surgery, and paramedics.

LaHood says most of the students at the school have their funding through Pell grants, a program he says he will continue to fight for. He says that’s more important as healthcare becomes a growing industry in Peoria.

“Healthcare is, really, in many ways, the future of our area, when you think about the expansion of OSF, you think about Carle, you think about Proctor,” LaHood said.

LaHood says Congress is looking for ways to expand and increase funding for Pell grants to counter inflation and rising costs. In addition, he says that can also expand to equipment and training programs at the school.
