US Rep. District 1 race: Frank Mrvan, Barb Regnitz will face off in fall
U.S. Rep. Frank Mrvan and Porter County Board of Commissioners Barb Regnitz were leading their respective primaries for U.S. Representative in Indiana’s First District.
The AP called each race by 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, and they will face off in the November general election.
Mrvan, D-Highland, is seeking his fourth term in Congress. He faced LaVetta Sparks-Wade, the former Gary parks director who was let go after being accused of harassment and ghost payrolling and a former Gary councilwoman, in the Democratic primary.
In the Republican primary, Regnitz outpaced Ben Ruiz and James Kent (Jim) Schenke.
With 99% of the vote counted, Mrvan captured 80% of the vote in Lake County, 74% in Porter County, and 85% in La Porte County. Regnitz got 40% of the vote in Lake County and 61% in Porter County, but Schenke led in LaPorte County with 37%, according to voting data from each county.
