High school students in Indiana's 2nd Congressional District can enter the annual Congressional Art Competition.

Submissions will be accepted from April 1-8 at district offices in Mishawaka and Rochester.

The winning artwork will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol building.

MISHAWAKA — High school students in Indiana's 2nd Congressional District have an opportunity to showcase their artistic talents in the annual Congressional Art Competition.

U.S. Rep. Rudy Yakym announced the competition is open, according to a press release. The competition is a nationwide event sponsored by members of Congress to recognize and encourage artistic talent among high school students.

"I am thrilled to invite Hoosier high school students throughout the Second District to participate in this year’s Congressional Art Competition," Yakym said in the release. "Each Spring, this competition is a great opportunity for students to showcase their creative talents and have the opportunity for their artwork to be proudly displayed in the halls of Congress. I encourage as many Second District students as possible to participate and submit artwork!"

Submissions will be accepted April 1-8. The winning piece will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol alongside other contest winners nationwide. All submitted artwork will be featured at the South Bend International Airport until May 2.

How to enter

Students interested in participating should review the rules and regulations, which can be found on Yakym's website at yakym.house.gov/congressional-art-competition. To submit artwork, students must complete and sign an information and release form, a student checklist, and a South Bend International Airport disclaimer. Appointments must be scheduled to bring the forms and labeled artwork to one of the district offices in Mishawaka or Rochester.

Artwork guidelines

Artwork, including the frame (frame is not required unless chosen as the winning piece), should be no larger than 26 inches high, 26 inches wide and 4 inches deep, and should weigh no more than 15 pounds, according to the release. Acceptable mediums include:

Paintings: including oil, acrylics and watercolor

Drawings: including colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels and charcoal (it is recommended that charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed)

Collages: must be two-dimensional

Prints: including lithographs, silkscreen and block prints

Mixed media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink and watercolor

Computer-generated art
