Shreve visits Hancock County about federal funds for fire truck

HANCOCK COUNTY — Despite a gloomy atmosphere outside, the environment inside the Green Township Volunteer Fire Department building was sunny and warm.
Homemade pastries were laid out on the main table as U.S. Rep. Jefferson Shreve (R-Indianapolis), Indiana Rep. Ethan Lawson (R-Greenfield), Indiana Sen. Mike Crider (R-Greenfield) and local community leaders all sat down in conversation.
There was reason for the gathering Wednesday morning: The volunteer fire department is one of 17 entities receiving federal community project funding thanks to Shreve.
The funding request, $500,000 toward a new fire rescue truck, has advanced past the House Appropriations Subcommittee and is included in the final project table that will be part of the bills concerning federal funding for fiscal year 2027.
This new fire truck would replace a fire truck built in 2004 that is experiencing some mechanical issues.
