Comer secures $24M BUILD grant to extend Paducah's main public port

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $24 million to support the Paducah-McCracken County Riverport Authority's Riverport West Project, Rep. James Comer announced Wednesday.
The Riverport West Project aims to strengthen Kentucky's transportation network, support local jobs and create new opportunities for growth in the region, according to a news release from Comer's office. The U.S. DOT grant is a Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development, or BUILD, grant.
The project will serve as an extension of the main public port, with the site located adjacent to the 1,000-acre Triple Rail Site, and will allow a high volume of manufactured goods and agricultural products to be shipped by local domestic barge companies, Comer wrote in a letter to DOT Secretary Sean Duffy in F…
