Rep. Hal Rogers announces $30M in federal funding for Eastern Kentucky infrastructure
HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Congressman Hal Rogers announced more than $30 million in federal funding for nine projects across eight counties in Southern and Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday, during a gathering of local leaders in Hazard.
Rep. Rogers, who represents Kentucky’s 5th Congressional District, said the investment spans multiple levels of government and is focused primarily on water infrastructure:
Much of the funding is directed toward replacing water lines and upgrading existing systems. The city of Hazard received $1.5 million, while the city of Jackson was awarded more than $10 million for water projects.
Perry County Judge Executive Scott Alexander said the investment is tied directly to regional economic development.
“To get this investment in the infrastructure line from the new water plant being built on the Middle Fork to get that water park to our industrial park as well as our citizens — it’s critical to our economic growth,” Alexander said. “So it’s a great day when we can …
