Fifth Congressional District primary features Rogers, four challengers
KENTUCKY (WYMT) - U.S. Representative Hal Rogers faces four Republican challengers in the primary for Kentucky’s Fifth Congressional District, a seat he has held since 1981.
Rogers, 88, is running against Benjamin Hurley, Kevin Smith, Jerry Lee Shelton and Brandon Monhollen in the Republican primary. The Fifth Congressional District covers most of southern and Eastern Kentucky.
Rogers, one of the longest-serving members of Congress, received the endorsement of President Donald Trump. He told supporters his focus is bringing federal resources back to eastern Kentucky and keeping projects moving.
“With the support of our people, I hope to continue securing federal funding for our rural region and working to protect taxpayer dollars by slashing wasteful spending,” Rogers said in a statement after voting early earlier this month.
