Trump endorsement doesn’t follow Miguez into Louisiana’s 6th District race
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - State Sen. Blake Miguez received President Donald Trump’s endorsement earlier this year when he entered the race for Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District. After the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the state’s congressional map unconstitutional and a new map was drawn, Miguez switched to the race for the 6th Congressional District seat — the one currently held by Congressman Cleo Fields. The endorsement did not follow him.
A Ballotpedia analysis found Trump’s Republican primary endorsements carry a 98% success rate across congressional, statewide, and state-legislative contests this year. Now, with a switch to an open-primary election this cycle, its unclear if a new endorsement will make its way into Louisiana’s congressional battle.
“I don’t know of a case like this one, this is a whole new environment,” political analyst Jim Engster said.
