Louisiana state Sen. Blake Miguez is running for Louisiana’s newly-redrawn 6th Congressional District, ending months of speculation following the Supreme Court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais that led to the state redrawing its congressional map; Miguez’s decision, obtained exclusively by the Washington Reporter, immediately gives the GOP a top-tier candidate in a new district that it is favored to flip in November.

Miguez had been the leading Republican candidate in Louisiana’s former 5th District before the court’s ruling reshaped the state’s political landscape. President Donald Trump endorsed Miguez in that race, and he entered the year widely viewed as the GOP favorite to succeed Rep. Julia Letlow (R., La.) after she launched a Senate campaign.
