Why I support Jeromie Whalen for Congress
While the news is understandably focused on high-profile Senate races in purple states like Maine and Michigan, there is an important House race here in the Berkshires, part of Massachusetts’ 1st Congressional District. I am supporting Jeromie Whalen, who is challenging incumbent Richard Neal in the September 1 Democratic primary. Mail-in voting is already underway.
Although Rep. Neal is a reliable Democrat, the party cannot afford incumbents who have lost touch with their constituents and who are compromised by corporate interests.
I frequently hear middle-aged and older people ask, “What do we need to do to get young people politically engaged?” My answer is: Get them excited! That is what Jeromie is doing by talking about issues that young people—and older ones, too—care about: a living wage, affordable housing, reliable public transportation, protecting the environment, and a tax system that makes wealthy people pay their fair share.
