In recent months there have been a number of primary elections across the country in which well-known, established Democrats lost or nearly lost to opponents who were committed to a range of policies considered hard-left: Medicare for All, for example (Sen. Ed Markey is also a supporter), or abolishing ICE and defunding the Department of Homeland Security. Could another such race be shaping up here? In this September’s Democratic primary for Massachusetts’ 4th Congressional District — which includes Needham — candidate Jason Poulos, whose platform includes many hard-left policies, is running against three-term Representative Jake Auchincloss.
