As an anti-incumbent/generational-change wave works its way across the country, all eyes in the Democratic Party are on Massachusetts as the next test. And polling out Monday shows signs it just might be — only maybe not where most think.
It’s a down-ballot race, not the US Senate matchup at the top of the ticket, that could give a member of Massachusetts’s old guard the biggest run for his money.
A new poll — commissioned by Leaders We Deserve, the progressive group putting its firepower behind Eighth Congressional District candidate Patrick Roath and other younger, progressive challengers — shows a tightening race in Roath’s primary against US Representative Stephen Lynch.
The survey of 469 likely Democratic primary voters in the district found Roath, a 39-year-old Jamaica Plain attorney, trailing Lynch by seven percentage points, 43 percent to 50 percent. The remaining 7 percent were undecided.
