Minnesota — 6th District

U.S. House Majority Whip Tom Emmer won an overwhelming victory over Elk River challenger Mike Foley and challenger Chris Corey on Tuesday in Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District Republican primary race.

But the voter turnout totals for the primary also raised the possibility Emmer could be facing a competitive challenge from DFL candidate Doug Chapin in the upcoming Nov. 3 General Elections.

Emmer won Tuesday night with 81% of the votes, or 53,088 votes, over his two challengers: Foley’s 15%, or 10,022 votes, and Chris Corey’s 4% of the votes, or 2,502 votes.

Emmer, who has represented Minnesota’s 6th District since 2015, won the 6th Congressional District Republican Party’s endorsement back in early May with 91.2% of first-ballot votes. But Foley, an Elk River veteran, had announced prior to the convention he would not abide by the endorsement and run against Emmer into the primary.
