Osberg wins DFL primary to face Fischbach in Minn. Congressional District 7

Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party primary voters in Minnesota’s Congressional District 7 chose Erik Osberg to advance to the general election and challenge incumbent Republican Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach.

Osberg, 53, of Wadena, was endorsed by the DFL and handily won over challenger Steve Carlson. Carlson, 75, of St. Paul, is a former Independence Party candidate who has run in DFL primaries since 2016.

Counting was ongoing when the Minnesota DFL Party in a Facebook post made around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday congratulated Osberg as the winner. He held a healthy lead throughout the night.

“This campaign has taken an earned not given approach,” Osberg said in a statement shared late Tuesday by the Minnesota DFL Party. “We’ve been showing up in all 38 counties for 17 months and will continue to do so as part of our quest to restore real representation to Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District.”
