Incumbent U.S. Rep. Wesley Bell staved off former Congresswoman Cori Bush in the Democratic primary for the 1st Congressional District on Tuesday, ending the most expensive candidate primary in Missouri this year.
Bell received 59% of the vote, compared to only 37% for Bush. He will take on Republican Paul Berry III and Libertarian Tom Schmitz in the November general election in the heavily Democratic district.
“St. Louis is up against a president that is coming after our healthcare, our due process, and the paychecks of working families,” Bell wrote on social media following his win. “These are neighbors losing coverage, families watching grocery bills climb, and people picked off our streets without so much as a semblance of due process and basic fairness. I will keep standing up to this reckless and cruel administration every single day.”
