Chris Stigall defeats Nathan Willett, earns Republican Party's nod in Missouri congressional race
Conservative talk radio host Chris Stigall won the Republican primary for Missouri's 6th Congressional District on Tuesday, defeating Kansas City Councilman Nathan Willett in a five-candidate field.
With 71% of precincts reporting, Stigall received about 44% of the vote, followed by Willett with 34%. Jim Ingram finished third with 9%, Nathanael Schultz received 8.5%, and Cody Oshel garnered nearly 4%.
The Associated Press called the race for Stigall.
On the Democratic side, Josh Smead won the nomination with nearly 48% of the vote, defeating Matt Levine and Scot Pondelick.
Smead will face Stigall in the November general election.
Speaking to supporters Tuesday night, Stigall thanked his backers and credited his Republican opponents, saying the campaign made him a stronger candidate.
