Dr. Raymond E. Smith, Jr. won the Democratic primary for North Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District on March 3, 2026, beating his opponent, Allison Jaslow with 56.6 to 43.4% of the vote. The newly drawn NC-3, with a Cook rating of (R+6), has been identified by the DCCC’s 2026 Red to Blue Project as a District in Play. Raymond Smith, Jr. will be facing Republican incumbent, Gregory Murphy and Libertarian candidate Daniel Cavender in the November 3rd general election. Raymond Smith; Jr. was born and raised and still lives in Goldsboro, Wayne County, North Carolina. Dr. Raymond E. Smith, Jr. has earned three degrees from HBCUs: a Bachelors degree in Supply Chain management from NC A&T State University, a Masters in Public Administration from NC Central University, and a Doctorate in Education Leadership from Fayetteville State University.
