Mejia wins the primary — again—in the 11th Congressional District
For the second time in four months, Analilia Mejia has won a Democratic primary in the 11th Congressional District.
The Associated Press called Tuesday’s four-way race for the Congresswoman 14 minutes after the polls closed, showing her with almost 82 percent of the vote with an estimated half of the ballots counted.
Which sets up a November rematch with Republican Joe Hathaway, who Mejia beat by nearly 20 points in a special April election to fill the unexpired term of Mikie Sherrill, who vacated her Congressional seat to become governor. Hathaway, a Randolph councilman, was unopposed in Tuesday’s GOP primary.
“We have to ensure that we’re not only just winning elections, but we’re bringing people back. Bringing people back into deeper engagements so that we can actually save our democracy in such a critical moment,” Mejia, 54, told jubilant supporters at a victory party in the Famished Frog courtyard in Morristown.
