GOP bets Trump's 'no tax on tips' will win Nevada House seat
President Donald Trump’s visit to Nevada on Wednesday came as Republicans bet that state Sen. Carrie Buck and the president’s signature “no tax on tips” policy can help them unseat Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV) and expand their House majority.
Titus has repeatedly turned back Republican challengers in Nevada’s 1st Congressional District, which includes the Las Vegas Strip. But Republicans believe the district’s steady shift toward the Republican Party, coupled with Buck’s track record of winning competitive races, makes the longtime Democratic incumbent more vulnerable than in previous cycles.
National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Christian Martinez said in a statement that “after more than 15 years in Congress, career politician Dina Titus has no record of results, no accomplishments to run on, and no vision for Nevada’s future,” and that Buck is “building the campaign to finally send her into retirement.”
