In the Nevada governor's race, incumbent Republican Joe Lombardo and Democratic Attorney General Aaron Ford will face off in November after handily winning their primaries Tuesday.

Democrat Nicole Cannizzaro and Republican Adriana Guzman Fralick won their primaries to replace Ford as attorney general.

Cannizzaro, state Senate majority leader, trounced Treasurer Zach Conine in the Democratic primary. On the Republican side, Reno attorney Guzman Fralick handily beat Douglas County Commissioner Danny Tarkanian.

In local races, Washoe County Registrar of Voters office will resume counting votes at 8 a.m. Wednesday. Here's where the races stand as of the latest results.

Trump-backed Flippo defeats Settelmeyer in 2nd Congressional District race

With a boost from President Donald Trump, retired Lt. Col. David Flippo knocked off rancher James Settelmeyer in the Republican primary for Nevada’s Second Congressional District race to replace Rep. Mark Amodei.

That puts Flippo in a strong position to win in November because the district, covering the state’s top half, features 80,000 more Republicans than Democrats.

He will face Teresa Benitez-Thompson, a social worker and former Nevada legislator, who won the Democratic primary.

Both races were declared for the two by Decision Desk HQ and the Associated Press.

As of Wednesday morning, Flippo was leading Settelmeyer by just over 10 percentage points, 46% to 35%.

Settelmeyer had been endorsed by Amodei, a Republican who’d held the seat since 2011 and announced his retirement in February. The relatively late announcement hobbled Settelmeyer by not allowing much time to line up donors and other support ahead of the primary.

When Amodei’s news came out, Flippo dropped his intentions to run in a U.S. House race in Southern Nevada and brought his campaign war chest up to Reno, where he quickly rented a home.

He positioned himself as a staunch Trump supporter, something that helped win him the president’s endorsement.

Flippo was also endorsed by the Washoe County Republican Party.

Washoe is the most populous county in the district, and he dominated it. Thursday morning results show Washoe County Republicans picking Flippo by more than 18,000 votes to about 11,000 for Settelmeyer.

On the Democratic side, wealthy Tahoe investor Greg Kidd came in a distant second to Benitez-Thompson.

Running as a nonpartisan, Kidd took on Amodei in the 2022 general election, where he spent about $9 million. This time as a Democrat, he received about 23% of primary votes to Benitez-Thompson’s 46% in initial results.

Krasner, Butler show big leads in Northern Nevada Legislature races

Incumbent Lisa Krasner took a huge lead over challenger Monica Stabbert in the Republican primary for state Senate District 16.

The heavily Republican district covers Carson City, Storey County, Washoe Valley and part of south Reno.

Early June 10, Krasner was ahead by about 70% to 30%.

Meanwhile, in the Republican primary for Assembly District 40, Julie Butler held a large advantage over Stacy Woodbury in second, followed by Drew Ribar and Rich Harvey. They are vying for the seat held by retiring Republican P.K. O'Neill.

Assembly District 40 includes Carson City, Storey County, Washoe Valley and the very end of south Reno east of the Veterans Parkway roundabout.

Michael Ginsburg is expected to beat Noah Bachman Dodge in the Republican primary for Assembly District 25, which includes big sections of Reno around Meadowood Mall, Caughlin Ranch, and northwest Reno near Mae Anne Avenue and Robb Drive.

Bachman Dodge did not mount an active campaign.

Ginsburg would face incumbent Democrat Selena La Rue Hatch in November.

Marshall leading in Reno mayor's race

An 11 p.m. release of vote counts shows former state treasurer Kate Marshall is still leading the Reno mayor primary race with 44.3% of the vote.

City Council member Kathleen Taylor is in second with 19.9% of the vote, followed by businessman George “Eddie” Lorton in third with 18.3% and council member Devon Reese in fourth with 9% of the vote.

The top two vote-getters will face each other in the November general election.

Lawson, Mayberry ahead in Sparks; City Council Ward 2 race is tight

In the Sparks mayor race, incumbent Ed Lawson holds the lead with 35.9% of the vote, followed by Wendi Rawson with 26.6%.

For the Ward 2 race, Jamie O'Connell, incumbent Dian VanderWell and Hunter Rand are separated by a mere 13 votes, with O'Connell having a slight lead.

Adam Mayberry has the lead in the Ward 4 race with 54% of the vote, followed by Sean McCaffrey with 29.1% of the vote.

In all three of the Sparks primary races, if a candidate gets more than 50% of the vote, they automatically are declared elected. If that doesn’t happen, the top two vote-getters in this nonpartisan race will appear on the November ballot.
