Nevada — 2nd District

I am the only independent, transformative Democratic candidate running on universal, cradle-to-grave economic policies — including giving everyone $1,300 once a month, just like during the pandemic. As the only independent Democrat with deep roots here, I know Northern Nevada is ready for a change. That change must come from someone who understands the challenges facing everyday Nevadans — not another candidate disconnected from our lived experiences, but someone who has walked in our shoes and is committed to fighting for our future.

My journey began outside of politics. As a Mexican American Nevadan, I’ve experienced both the broken promises and enduring hopes of this country. My response to 9/11 was to become a diplomat, but economic inequality forced me to drop out, and I became homeless. Then, like so many in Northern Nevada, during the Great Recession, I got entangled in the criminal justice system because in America, we criminalize poverty. I relied on SNAP and minimum wage jobs to survive. I know firsthand how easily hardworking people can fall through the cracks.

But I didn’t give up. I worked my way back, earned a degree in political science and completed a master’s in public administration at the University of Nevada, Reno. Each setback fueled my determination and shaped my vision for a country where everyone has a fair shot — because opportunity shouldn’t be reserved for just a few.

Economic inequality has held Nevada back for decades. It’s time for bold, practical solutions: universal economic policies for all from cradle to grave, including a universal basic income — funded by those who have benefited most, from tech billionaires to mining interests. No family in Reno, Sparks or anywhere in our district should be left behind while the wealthy profit.

As your independent Democratic candidate for Congress, I bring both lived struggles and hope for real solutions. My life proves that with vision, grit and the right policies, we can create a future that works for everyone in Northern Nevada. This is our moment to rise together — to show what’s possible when a community comes together with hope, courage and determination. Let’s make that vision a reality, not just for ourselves, but for generations to come.

In 2024, long before it became fashionable to run for Nevada’s Second Congressional District, I saw the political stars aligning. Recognizing a unique opportunity, I volunteered for Greg Kidd’s campaign that year. As I spoke to community leaders, many insisted it was impossible for a Democrat to win. I listened, but I saw what they didn’t: a window opening, especially after Trump’s reelection. I understood how Project 2025, the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” and the threat of multiple shutdowns would fuel frustration and anger throughout the district. Through my activism, I gained a unique perspective on the potential for grassroots, people-powered mobilization.

While others jumped into the race later, I was among the first to see that a serious challenge was possible. I anticipated that big money would try to buy this seat. But my experience as a campaign manager and organizer in Nevada taught me that real victories are built on vision, authenticity, and the power of people—not just dollars.

Observing other campaigns only reinforced what I already knew: top-down, self-funded efforts are out of touch with working families and don’t reflect the needs of our communities in Reno, Carson City, and throughout the district. That’s why I’m running to build a truly grassroots, inclusive movement — one that brings together Nevadans of all backgrounds. The key is forging an interfaith, interracial, intergenerational, urban, suburban and rural coalition anchored in economic solidarity, standing together against the high cost of everything and the affordability challenges we all face. When we unite across our differences, we become unstoppable. Together, we can shape a future where no one is left behind.

This campaign isn’t about ego or impulse. It’s the result of years spent listening to neighbors, working on solutions and building trust. Together, with the right story, the right platform and a shared dream, we can offer a real alternative to the status quo. True leadership means seeing opportunities for progress when others see only obstacles — and acting with hope instead of fear.
