Suozzi, LiPetri win congressional primaries, set up rematch in November

U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi and former state Assembly Member Michael LiPetri Jr. won their respective party primaries Tuesday in New York’s 3rd Congressional District, setting up a rematch of their closely contested 2024 race in November.

With results still being finalized Wednesday morning , June 24, Suozzi defeated challenger Danielle Welch in the Democratic primary, while LiPetri prevailed over attorney and Air Force veteran Greg Hach in the Republican contest.

As of 8 a.m. Wednesday morning, with 93.9% of votes in, Suozzi received 20,820 votes, or 79.6%, compared with 5,263 votes, or 20.1%, for Welch. On the Republican side, with 95% of votes, LiPetri earned 10,898 votes, or 81.9%, while Hach received 2,294 votes, or 17.2%.

The winners advance to the Nov. 3 general election in one of the nation’s most closely watched congressional districts. The 3rd District includes portions of Nassau County and northeastern Queens.
