Ryan, Auringer offer up possible campaign pledges in congressional race
KINGSTON, N.Y. — U.S. Rep. Pat Ryan and his GOP challenger, Jackie Auringer, have ramped up campaign messaging, including offering dueling pledges to force what the two described as positive position-taking.
Ryan, D-Gardiner, who represents the 18th Congressional District, was the first to offer up his “Positive Campaign Pledge” containing “five simple guidelines for candidates to follow in the race for NY-18 to ensure a good-faith, issue-based race to represent the people of the Hudson Valley,” his campaign said.
But Aurigner, in a statement and in a video posted on social media, said Ryan’s pledge was a bullying tactic.
Ahead of the November election, Ryan’s “Positive Campaign Pledge” proposes five guidelines for the candidates to follow.
The pledge will only take effect if both candidates agree to it, Ryan’s campaign said.
“The people of the Hudson Valley deserve a campaign that’s about them, not petty politics — that’s the kind of good-faith campaign this pledge ensures,” Ryan said…
