St. Bonaventure University professor Aaron Gies will win the Democratic nomination in the race for New York’s 23rd Congressional District, the Associated Press declared.
The political newcomer defeated Erie County attorney Kevin Stocker in Tuesday’s primary elections.
As of the latest unofficial results, Gies had 71.6% of the vote to Stocker’s 28.1%, with 79.56% of the estimated vote counted.
Gies addressed his supporters Tuesday night after he was declared the projected winner. He says affordability still remains his top priority heading toward the general election.
"The common good, which is the center of this campaign, is more than just being able to afford stuff. It's also about having time — time to build relationships, time to invest in your community, time to think about what would make your life better," said Gies.
