Ohio 7th District 2026: Poindexter quits council to focus on race with Max Miller
BROOK PARK, Ohio - Democratic congressional candidate Brian Poindexter has resigned his post on Brook Park’s city council to focus full-time on his campaign for Congress.
“When I win, I want to bring to Washington what I learned on this council: how to work with people of different beliefs to get things done and how to never forget the reason I do all of this, to put workers first,” Poindexter said in tendering his resignation, which took effect on Wednesday.
In May, Poindexter won an eight-way Democratic primary for the chance to take on U. S. Rep. Max Miller, a Bay Village Republican, in November. Although the district was designed to be safe for Republicans, Miller’s re-election campaign has been undermined by domestic abuse allegations from his ex-wife, Emily Moreno.
Miller denies the allegations and has sued his ex-wife for defamation. He continues to seek re-election to his third congressional term despite calls to drop out from fellow Republicans including U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno of Avon — Emily Moreno’s father — and U.S. Sen. Jon Husted of the Columbus area.
At its Oct. 6 meeting, the council is set to discuss holding a May 4 special election to fill the remainder of Poindexter’s term, which expires at the end of 2027.
“We’re going to miss your feisty approach to some of the issues that were very, very near and dear to your heart,” Council President Richard A. Salvatore told Poindexter, urging him to keep Brook Park as his “No. 1” priority if he wins the contest.
“I can’t forget it,” Poindexter quipped. “It’s my initials.”
