Oklahoma — 1st District

For the first time, the Almanac of American Politics is now publishing biographies of expected members of the next Congress. We will publish these once a nominee is chosen for a seat that’s coming open and which is safe for that nominee’s party. These will appear months before they take office, in order to give readers an advance look at incoming members. As with all new Almanac content, they will be accessible only to paid subscribers to this Substack.

Mark Tedford secured the 2026 Republican nomination for Oklahoma’s 1st District one day after finishing first in the June 16 primary, as Jackson Lahmeyer, the runner-up, withdrew his candidacy amid revelations that he had exchanged sexual messages with a woman who was not his wife. Lahmeyer had been the early Republican frontrunner and had been endorsed by President Donald Trump prior to the news reports about his texting.
