Two Democratic candidates, Trey Martin and Jena Nelson, are vying for their party’s nomination in the June 16 primary as Oklahoma Democrats aim to flip the state’s 5th Congressional District back to Democratic control.
Martin, an iron worker and union president, and Nelson, an educator and former Teacher of the Year, have both focused their campaigns on addressing the pressures families in the district are facing.
Martin said his decision to run stems from personal experiences, particularly the high costs of healthcare.
"You know, a lot of Oklahomans are struggling with the same thing that I am. So, I have an intimate relationship with those issues," Martin said.
