Oregon should easily remain a Democratic stronghold in 2026. Democrats control both of the state’s Senate seats & 5 of its 6 House seats. Incumbent Senator Jeff Merkley should secure re-election, maintaining Democrats’ sweep in the Senate.

That said, a sweep in the House is likely out of the picture. Trump’s decreasing favorability, the prolonged war with Iran, rising costs, & his false claims about vandalism at the Reflecting Pool could help Democrats improve their performance in Republican areas such as OR-02. Still, the district remains firmly Republican, so the greater opportunity may be engaging voters, improving margins, & building the party’s infrastructure across eastern Oregon.

The biggest problem for Democrats hoping for a larger wave election is that even though Trump’s ratings are falling, that has not always produced a matching rise in support for Democrats as a party.
