Oregon politician sends Epstein survivor to speech
U.S. Rep. Maxine Dexter will send a survivor of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein to attend President Donald Trump’s State of The Union, the member of Congress announced Monday.
The first-term Democrat from Oregon’s 3rd Congressional District invited Epstein survivor Lisa Phillips, a former model and actress, and will not attend the address herself today.
“Her presence will send a clear message: Epstein survivors will not be silenced,” Dexter said in a news release. “The powerful will not be protected. Our government will be accountable to the people it serves.”
Dexter will also host a virtual town hall for Oregonians starting at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday. Trump will deliver the State of the Union at 6 p.m.
“I am deeply grateful to Representative Dexter for this honor. I sit in this seat not for myself, but for the girls who were never given a voice — and for the accountability they deserve,” Phillips said in the release.
Several Democratic senators and representatives have invited Epstein survivors to attend the speech. Phillips will sit in the gallery, Dexter’s spokesperson said.
Congress last year passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Dexter co-sponsored the legislation, which Trump signed into law Nov. 19 following political pressure from his own party after he first resisted those efforts.
Millions of files have been released in accordance with the act, which required the Department of Justice to release all unclassified files related to Epstein.Democrats contend the administration has continued to withhold and redact files.
