4 candidates battle for Oregon’s politically divided 5th Congressional District
Rep. Janelle Bynum is being challenged by Zeva Rosenbaum in the Democratic primary while Patti Adair and Jonathan Lockwood are facing off in the Republican primary.
BEND, Ore. -- Four candidates -- two Democrats and two Republicans -- are on the May 19 primary ballot. The district stretches from parts of southeast Portland through Clackamas, Marion, Linn and Deschutes counties, including Bend, making it one of Oregon’s most politically diverse regions.
On the Democratic side, incumbent Rep. Janelle Bynum is seeking reelection after flipping the seat in 2024. Her campaign has focused on issues like lowering costs for families and expanding access to affordable housing.
“Number one, you need to build more. Number two, you need to save what you have, so the threat of wildfire is very important for us to consider, making sure that we are investing and supporting home hardening types of activities and then making sure we don’t lose them," Bynum said.
