'Peaceful expression' urged after local congressman's office vandalized during rally
City of Washington Mayor JoJo Burgess is urging "peaceful expression" after a local congressman's office was vandalized during a rally at the county courthouse over the weekend.
In a letter from Burgess, the Washington-Greene Central Labor Council and the Washington Democratic Party held a John Lewis Good Trouble Rally at the Washington County Courthouse on Saturday.
Burgess, who attended the rally, said he noticed several people attempting to write on the outside walls of U.S. Rep. Guy Reschenthaler's office.
Reschenthaler, a Republican, is currently serving his fourth term representing Pennsylvania's 14th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives and is the Chief Deputy Whip for the 119th Congress.
"I immediately advised them that this type of behavior was unacceptable and did not reflect the message or purpose of the rally organized by the Washington-Greene Central Labor Council and the Washington Democratic Party," Burgess said in the letter.
