JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — State officials and Jefferson County commissioners gathered Wednesday for a big announcement on the future of the county’s emergency services.
Congressman Glenn Thompson announced over $460,000 in federal funding for a new 911 center in Jefferson County.
He says the money will go towards plans for a larger facility, with better equipment, that will relocate operations near the county jailhouse.
State officials say the needed upgrades will help improve response and keep up with growing emergency demand.
County leaders add that plans to begin the project may take a few years.
“As you can imagine, there were a lot of requests, but this was a top priority. We need our 911 services to be able to have adequate infrastructure, because quite frankly, every time a call comes in, it could be a person's life at stake,” said Thompson.
