In congressional primaries, Lee wins 12th District; Guy declares victory in 17th after scare
Western Pennsylvania had only two contested Congressional primaries this spring, and in both, the only real drama in the campaigns involved the question of whether there’d be two candidates on the ballot at all.
But things changed a bit on election night itself.
In one of the districts — the 12th — the primary result was determined less than an hour after the polls closed: The Associated Press called the Democratic primary at 8:58 p.m. in favor of incumbent U.S. Rep. Summer Lee.
The AP declared Lee the winner over challenger Will Parker with 36 percent of the votes counted, noting that Lee had amassed more than 81 percent of the votes counted at that point.
In the 17th District, where two Republicans faced off for the right to challenge Democratic incumbent Chris Deluzio this fall, the race was much closer.
