Second day recap: South Dakota Republican convention in Rapid City after heated primary election season ahead of historic runoff
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Leaders from across South Dakota are in Rapid City this week for the South Dakota Republican Party’s state convention, where delegates will vote on which candidates advance to the general election ballot in several statewide races.
U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds and and Attorney General Marty Jackley, running for US House, won their primary elections. They addressed delegates on Friday as discussions centered on issues ranging from keeping young people in the state to criminal justice and election integrity.
One party nominee that will be decided by convention delegates is an open seat in the Attorney General race, as current AG Jackley runs for South Dakota’s lone congressional seat that was vacated by Dusty Johnson’s gubernatorial run.
