Heidi Kuhn wins Democratic nomination for District 8 congressional seat
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Outgoing Shelby County Criminal Court Clerk Heidi Kuhn is the Democratic nominee in Tennessee’s new 8th Congressional District seat.
Kuhn will face off against incumbent Rep. David Kustoff, who ran unopposed in the Republican primary. Kustoff has been in office since 2017.
But Kustoff’s district has changed significantly. The district no longer includes Northeast Tennessee or some southwest counties, but has the biggest portion of Shelby County, which has been split into three districts.
Kuhn announced her candidacy after losing the primary for Shelby County Mayor to Mickell Lowery.
Kuhn’s campaign has centered on affordability. She’s called for an increase in the federal minimum wage, Medicare reform and protections for Social Security.
She has served as criminal court clerk inn Shelby County since 2018, winning re-election in 2022. Kuhn was endorsed by outgoing District 9 Rep. Steve Cohen.
