Prince wins Democratic runoff for U.S. House District 1
TYLER, Texas (KTRE) - Yolanda Prince won the Democratic runoff for U.S. House District 1 on Tuesday, defeating Dax Alexander with more than 70 percent of the vote.
Prince received 4,285 votes, or 72 percent, while Alexander received 1,674 votes, or 28 percent, with an estimated 58.9 percent of votes counted.
Prince said she plans to continue her outreach efforts ahead of the general election.
“I’m going to beat the bushes. You know, I’m going to continue to do what I do plus some extra, so look out, cause I’m going to be contacting a lot of folks to get them out, and still registering people to vote,” Prince said.
Alexander thanked his supporters and said a new message will be needed to win the seat.
“I think we’re going to have to try new things,” Alexander said. “I think we’re going to have to have a new message, a progressive message. I think we’ve got to be willing to stand up to things that some Democrats have turned over, turned around before.”
