Van Taylor leads TX-03 following record early vote
U.S. Rep. Van Taylor easily leads Democrat Lulu Seikaly in Texas' 3rd Congressional District following early voting.
More than 392,000 ballots were cast during in-person early voting and by mail, and Taylor, R-Plano, holds an 11% lead from those initial results. Taylor, 48, has nearly 55% of the early vote while Seikaly, a 34-year-old lawyer from Plano, has just over 43%.
The fast-growing suburban district located within Collin County has trended purple over the last four years amid a massive Democratic effort to register voters in hopes of flipping the district.
The early vote has already surpassed the total turnout in the district in 2016 and 2018.
Just over 312,000 total votes were cast in the district in 2018 when Taylor secured his first term in Congress, and 316,000 votes were cast in the district in 2016.
