Congressman Joaquin Castro holds town hall meeting on the West Side
Cloudy with patchy drizzle and an isolated shower.
SAN ANTONIO - Congressman Joaquin Castro's Town Hall at Our Lady of the Lake University brought 1,200 people together to the Thiry Auditorium on the West Side. It was full of people voicing concerns over the Trump Administration cutting social programs.
“What am I gonna do, I'm old already I'm handicapped I'm gonna have to get back to work which I've always worked all my life, medical issues right now are a barrier,” said a town hall attendee who did not want to be named.
But Castro was not only here to talk about Medicare and Medicaid.
“The president is recklessly trying to, I believe, illegally trying to shut down the department of education,” Castro said.
He spoke about layoffs at the VA and shared some personal views.
“If we could build an infrastructure of opportunity for people, great schools and universities, a strong healthcare system so when people get sick they can afford to see the doctor,” Castro said.
